• This facility includes a Gotham EMT 140S Stereo Tube Plate Reverb, which can be patched to Studios A, B C or D.

The EMT 140 Reverberation Unit

Introduced in 1957, the Gotham Audio Corporation’s EMT 140 was a mono acoustical reverb unit that used a steel plate to reproduce sound waves, which were then picked up by a dynamic microphone. In 1961 the EMT 140 was offered as a stereo unit and became the most popular reverb unit for decades for recordings of all kinds. Our stereo EMT 140S is the model with the rare tube amplification system. This unit came from The Complex Studios and the electronics were modified by George Massenburg, from AC to DC power, for a reduced noise floor.

The experience of the EMT 140 is unlike any Digital reverb, with a natural richness and acoustic response that naturally handles all kinds of sound sources. We feel this classic reverb is not only an essential tool for studio productions, but also gives a valuable benchmark reference for the selection and programming of Digital reverbs.
