Sound Editing and Mixing Simulation is a 3 day course where newly-minted sound editors apply their skills to projects that simulate a "real job" assignment in a workplace environment. A key feature of this course is a 20-hour assignment – each student does sound design, edits dialog and backgrounds, and rough-mixes a 5 minute segment for a TV show. The course also deals with aesthetic concerns, problem-solving and project / media management. In addition, our industry experienced instructors provide valuable tips for dealing with directors and producers.
segment - A section of a track or clip within a sequence in the Timeline that can be edited.
mixing - Within music recording and production, mixing is the processing and balancing of more than one audio source, live or recorded, that are then summed into one or more channels or tracks. Digital audio mixing that is done completely inside a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), even with occasional analog side chain processing, is often referred to as “mixing within the box”.
