Introducing The Hollywood Institute Studios
By Kate Logan | February 21, 2009
Video Symphony – The Hollywood Institute is proud to announce the addition of “The Hollywood Institute Studios” in Burbank, CA.
The Studios currently include three Surround Sound production and mixing studios, one recording studio with Surround Sound production and mixing, one Surround Sound Home Theatre studio, plus a multisystem edit suite with six Pro Tools HD workstations
Most audio and film schools offer classrooms that are just that – standard classrooms with some equipment and a few acoustic panels, but they don’t offer real studio sound or professional design. By contrast, The Hollywood Institute Studios has the look, feel, and sound of a professional commercial sound facility because it is a professional multi-studio complex. It was designed during the glory days of music studio design in the 1970’s by architects trained in the laws of studio acoustic applications and we’ve restored and updated the facility to achieve the finest performance, combining the best of old and new technologies.
The Hollywood Institute Studios has a rich history in the recording industry. The recording studio, which used to be known as Location Recording Service or simply Studio 4, ran from the early 70s through the late 90s. During that time some of the industry’s most legendary artists recorded and mastered their hits at the studios – Madonna, The Beach Boys, Gladys Knight, The Jets, Ted Nugent, Al Jarreau, Kenny Loggins, Cheech and Chong, Juice Newton, Ambrosia, and many more. And musicians weren’t the only one’s to record in our studios – film and TV credits for Studio 4 include: Terminator, Beverly Hills Cop II, At Close Range, Born on the Fourth of July, and Miami Vice. The awards from work created in our Studios include 5 Platinum albums, 7 Gold Albums, 3 Gold Singles, and 2 Ampex Gold Reel awards.
The Benefits? Our “studios as classrooms” offer a superior real world experience for students, who learn studio setups and operations in an actual sound facility.
Contemporary ear training and surround sound production require specialized equipment, room set-ups, and both headphone and speaker monitoring – activities not possible when multiple consoles are batched in a standard classroom. Plus, it’s important to work in different studio rooms with different setups and acoustics to be able to turn out the consistent work required in the industry. This energized, creative atmosphere compels students to approach their craft with more effort and provides a valuable real-world edge to their training.
Video Symphony – The Hollywood Institute is a top-rated Digidesign Pro School, providing world-class training in Pro Tools Audio Engineering. To learn more about our Pro Tools Audio Engineering Program and our new studios, schedule a tour today by calling 800-VS1-2843 or emailing info@vs.edu.

Is it true that this studio was also used by radio pioneer Casey Kasem (”American Top 40″) ?
